Earthing With Joy

Hey lovelies,

Over the past two weeks since the new year began, I captured thousands of moments through both film and digital images. Some of the moments are captured by me (self portraits). Others are captured by my daughter who is an aspiring photographer, or my sister, Grace, who has always shared my passion for photography. In addition, I have been working with a specific photographer on multiple shoots in a variety of settings to capture my rewilding journey.

One of the aspects of rewilding that is more difficult to capture in a photo is the process of “earthing”.

According to Dr. Mercola:

“There is an emerging science documenting how conductive contact with the Earth, which is also known as Earthing or grounding, is highly beneficial to your health. Earthing appears to minimise the consequences of exposure to potentially disruptive fields like “electromagnetic pollution” or “dirty electricity.”

I have not been involved in any medical or scientific studies about earthing but I will tell you from my own personal perspective what earthing or grounding does for me. When I walk barefoot on the earth, I feel at peace. A sense of inner calm washes over my mind, my body, and my spirit. If I continue to walk on the earth once I access this state of flow I begin to tap into a deeply sensuous state of being and heightened awareness.

The following photos are portraits of my feet connecting with the earth. When I am barefoot indoors (like in the yoga photo or the one of me receiving a tarot card reading), I imagine roots emerging from my feet into the core of the earth. With the ground beneath my feet, the wind at my back, and the sun kissing my skin, I am one with Mother Earth. I hope your day is bliss.

From my heart to yours,

Joy

I wonder if Dr. Mercola has written anything on nudism/being clothes free perhaps indirectly as to letting the skin breathe, or in the need for sunlight (on more than just the face) in order to creating Vitamin D, etc.? I haven’t read a lot of his work but I know he focuses on natural, holistic well-being. Just curious.

    1. After a quick search for “benefits of nudism Dr. Mercola” A number of related articles come up. One of them is titled: “Your Body Needs Full Spectrum Light for Optimal Function – Dr. Mercola” So yes, I think you may be onto something Joe.

Feet are intimate. Would love to give yours an extended massage. 🙂

    1. I am a bodyworker. I love giving and receiving massage! 💕

So nice. Me too. We should meet and exchange. 💜

  3. Folks have many different perspectives to feet, some see Feet as points of contact with the ground, good conductors of the magical or spiritual fluid from the earth. I, on the other hand, see the foot as a phallic symbol. For example, in the story of Cinderella, the slipper is a female vulva, and the foot as the male penis.

    1. Makes sense. A lot of people find feet to be an unexpected erogenous zone. I for one melt when I receive a foot massage.

While I find your comment to be a fascinating perspective, I have to ask if there is literary evidence to support the Cinderella theory (phallic symbolism) or if this might be a case of reading into something that can’t be substantiated?

        Honestly, just one man’s perspective

      2. One that has been extensively written about and debated…

      3. On this topic: “The foot is phallic with the shoe as the vulva and the foot itself as a euphemism for genitals…In old customs an in art, footprints and worn-out shoes symbolized real presence. [The foot] is also an infantile phallic symbol: in the story of Cinderella, the slipper is a female symbol and the foot a phallic one.”

My daughter has been Earthing her whole life. Until the age of five she rarely wore shoes and was quite stubborn about it. I remember a time walking through town with her shoes in my hand, her strolling along without a second thought about it. A lady stopped us and asked if we needed money to buy our little girl some shoes, I just smiled at her, showed her the shoes in my hand and told her this was her way of grounding. Sometimes when she has a moment of anxiety I remind her to connect with the earth, by taking off my own shoes.

    1. You are such a beautiful mama raising an awe-mazing young woman! 💕
